Expanding the mentoring program to help Quebec University Libraries participate in the Francophone Name Authority Program (PFAN)

The Francophone Name Authority Program (PFAN), through which participating institutions contribute to Canadiana Authorities by providing French-language authority records, was launched in June 2020.

As part of a pilot project in the winter and spring of 2021, Université de Montréal and Université Laval provided mentoring to four institutions to help them apply PFAN rules to develop French-language authorities in Canadiana.

Both the mentors and mentees saw the pilot project very positively, which enabled them to contribute to Canadiana.

To help all Quebec university libraries contribute to PFAN, the Library Subcommittee adopted the Authorities Working Group’s recommendation to expand the mentoring program to all institutions that want to participate. In return, the institutions that are now equipped to contribute independently will mentor the other institutions that are not yet enabled to do so.
